Background
The 21st annual California Water Policy Conference offers participants an opportunity to learn about some of the most important, controversial and hopeful issues and opportunities facing water-focused decision makers in the state. The conference steering committee pursues plenary speakers and workshop panelists who are the best experts representing the differing stakeholder interest groups involved in water issues from around the state. This conference will advance the discussion and further everyone on the path toward solutions for the complex and often polarizing problems involving our state's water issues.
Who should apply
Anyone within California who can make use of the information that will be conveyed at this conference can apply for a scholarship. Priority will be given to students as well as those involved with the environmental justice movement and other non-profit organizations who would otherwise not be able to attend.
How to apply
Download and fill out the application form and email it by 5 pm on February 1, 2012 to Debbi Dodson, ddodson@san.rr.com (Call 858-272-9627 if you need assistance.)
When will applicants be notified
The Conference Scholarship Committee will meet on the following week and applicants will be notified no later than February 4, 2012.
What is Included with the Scholarship
The scholarship will be based on need and may include some or all of the following: free access to the two-day conference, both lunches, hotel accommodations (one night, double occupancy) and transportation assistance. Scholarship Recipients will also be paired with a mentor at the conference if desired. The scholarship is valued at between $160 and $450 depending on hotel and transportation needs. Scholarship Recipients will need to pay a non-refundable fee of $35 by February 18, 2012. This will help ensure that recipients will actually show up and not have precluded someone else from attending.
How will Scholars be Chosen
A sub-committee of the conference Steering Committee will choose among applicants based on their written explanation of what they hope to gain from the conference. Other factors the sub-committee will consider include: transportation and hotel costs, diversity, and references.
